ALEJANDRO, “UN OSO azul terrible” (“a terrible blue bear”), and Alexander, a terrible red tigre (“tiger”), think, speak, and play in different languages. When they meet, they want to destroy each other, but by the end of the story, they’ve learned that they can also be friends. This, Ekaré’s first bilingual title, is atypical because the English and Spanish texts are not exact equivalents. Instead, Alejandro speaks in Spanish and Alexander responds in English: “Dame ese tigre: ¡Me lo quiero comer!” (which means, “Give me that tiger: I want to eat it!”) is followed by “Give me that bear: I want to eat it!” With this formula Rubio shows how, in today’s multicultural society, children who speak different languages can still become friends. La librería Expresión Viva presenta el libro Terrible, terrible el cual está dirigido a la población infantil a partir de los 3 años y que hace parte de la colección El jardín de los niños. La autora es Gabriela Rubio, escritora española que ha publicado varios textos para niños y niñas. Rubio ha sido merecedora del ‘Premio Lazarillo’ de ilustración 1993 y del ‘Premio Apel. Les Mextres’ de Literatura Infantil Ilustrada 1999.
En 32 páginas Terrible, terrible narra la historia de Alexander, un terrible blue bear, que se encuentra con Alejandro, un tigre rojo terrible. Hablan distintos idiomas y siempre buscan uno sobrepasar al otro. Es el primer título bilingüe de Ediciones Ekaré.
